• Myron E. “Mike” Ullman (81-82) – 2014 John W. Gardner Legacy of Leadership Award

    Mike Ullman’s dedicated leadership spans several decades – in the business arena leading large global organizations, to include Managing Director of Wharf Holdings in Hong Kong, Chairman and CEO of R. H. Macy and Company, Chairman and CEO of DFS Group Limited, Directeur General/Group Managing Director of LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, and Chairman and CEO of J. C. Penney Company, Inc. He has served on the Board of Directors of Starbucks Corporation, Polo Ralph Lauren Corportation, Taubman Centers, Inc, Segway LLC, Global Crossing Ltd., Asia Global Crossing, Kendall Jackson Wine Estates, Pzena Investment Management Inc., COFRA AG, and Saks Fifth Avenue. Recognized as a key leader in the retail sector, Mike has served in the highest leadership positions in two top industry sector leadership groups: The National Retail Federation and The Retail Industry Leaders Association. He serves as a member of the Wall Street Journal CEO Council. The Woodrow Wilson Center has recently announced that Mike is the recipient of the 2014 Woodrow Wilson Award for Corporate Citizenship.

    Mike’s dedication to public service is highlighted by his long service as a board member and Chairman of the Board of Mercy Ships International, which provides medical care to the poorest of the poorest in Africa. He has also served on the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, and now serves as Chairman. Mike served on the Board of Directors of the Lucille Packard Foundation for Children’s Health, Chair of the University of San Francisco Medical Center Executive Council, and was a founding Director of Mother’s Choice LTD, a very important Hong Kong charity that serves pregnant girls and provides care for their children, including those who are released for adoption.

    Mike expresses his gratitude and pride in being a part of the WHF Community through his continuing support to the White House Fellows as longtime co-chair of the Dallas Regional Selection Panel, attendance at WHFFA Leadership Conferences, financial support to the WHFFA, and mentorship of WHF after their Fellowship year.

    Mike’s career achievements, lifetime dedication to public service and continuing support of the WHF Program reflect the enduring qualities of character, determination, insight, and responsibility embodied in John Gardner’s legacy and vision for the White House Fellows.
